High School Students

START COLLEGE EARLY WITH UW INDEPENDENT LEARNING

As a qualified high school student, you can enroll to take self-paced, college-level distance education courses with the UW Independent Learning program while you finish high school.

Enrollment Options & Enrollment Process

There are different ways you can enroll to take UW coursework with Independent Learning while in high school. Review the program options and enrollment process below to learn more.

Option 1: Wisconsin’s Early College Credit Program

Beginning Fall 2018, high school students at public and private high schools in Wisconsin can earn college credit with UW Extension’s Independent Learning program through the Early College Credit Program (ECCP). Students can take one or more courses and earn high school credit, post-secondary credit, or both. Under ECCP, the costs of the courses are shared among the higher education institution, the school district or private school, the state, and in some cases the student’s family. In order to enroll in the ECCP, students must seek approval from their school no later than February 1 for summer courses, March 1 for fall courses, and October 1 for the spring courses. Independent Learning is not responsible for the purchase of course materials. You must work with your high school to purchase course materials.

For all other program policies including extensions, refunds, withdraws, and grade appeals please refer to the program policies page.

Please note that CEU courses do not qualify for ECCP. If a student is seeking to enroll in a CEU course they must enroll directly with UW Independent Learning.
